MAS-100 VF®

The smart choice for versatile microbial air sampling

The MAS-100 VF® is the flexible mid-range model in the MAS-100 family of portable microbial air samplers. Designed for precise microbiological monitoring in cleanrooms, pharmaceutical production, hospitals, and the food and cosmetics industries, it delivers high collection efficiency in a compact, easy-to-use package.

Its ergonomic design and browser-based configuration provide maximum flexibility, making it the ideal solution for demanding monitoring applications.

Full Performance. Compact Design.

The speed-controlled volumetric flow ensures consistent measurement accuracy of ±4% at an airflow rate of 100 liters per minute.

With a physical cut-off diameter (d₅₀) of 1.1 µm using the 300×0.6 mm perforated lid, the MAS-100 VF reliably captures even the smallest microbial particles.

Calibration can be performed with the MAS-100 Regulus® and our ISO 17025-accredited calibration laboratory, fully traceable to international standards.

Designed for ISO 14644‑1 Class 5 (GMP Grade A), the MAS-100 VF impresses with low-particle components and a cleaning-friendly design. Smooth surfaces made of anodized aluminum and technical polymers allow easy disinfection with standard industry agents, providing maximum protection in critical areas. Perforated lids can be incorporated into existing cleaning and sterilization cycles.

Browser-based configuration requires no additional software, making sample preparation effortless. Sampling programs can be centrally managed and adapted to different applications, volumes, or plate formats. This gives QC and QA managers full control over measurement parameters, while on-site operators benefit from a simplified, intuitive interface. An automatic calibration function, along with calibration reminders and optional device lock, ensures maximum process reliability in daily use.

The EasyClean plate holder, along with perforated lids of 300×0.6 mm and 400×0.7 mm, allows the use of different agar plate formats and GrowthDirect® cassettes. Pre-set volumes from 10–500 liters, as well as freely programmable volumes up to 2,000 liters, enable flexible sampling. With a battery life of approximately 5 hours, even extensive measurements are no problem.

Browser-Based Configuration

The web-based configuration interface makes instrument management and sample preparation significantly easier. Without any additional software installation, sampling volumes and measurement programs can be defined centrally and deployed to multiple MAS-100 VF units. An optional lock for expired calibration intervals ensures that only validated instruments are used – supporting regulatory compliance and reliable data integrity.

Self-Calibration

Accurate active air sampling depends on correct airflow and sampling volume. That’s why the MAS-100 air samplers can be calibrated using the certified MAS-100 Regulus digital anemometer and our ISO 17025-accredited calibration laboratory, fully traceable to international standards. Every step in this calibration chain is fully documented, giving you complete confidence in producing reliable results at all times.

Impaction principle in microbial air sampling

For active microbial air sampling based on the impaction principle, a predefined volume of air is drawn through a perforated sieve. The air and the particles in it are accelerated and directed onto an agar plate positioned below the sieve.

Due to inertia, particles above a certain size are impacted onto the agar medium. After appropriate incubation, microbe-bearing particles become visible as colony forming units (CFU), can be counted and reported as CFU/m3. The particle size at which 50% of the particles impact and the other half remain in the air stream is called the cut off diameter d50 (um).

Great emphasis is placed on precision in the manufacture of MBV perforated sieves. This ensures that the cut off diameter is identical in all holes and that microbial air sampling is repeatable.

    FAQ

Yes, glass Petri dishes can be used on mobile microbial air samplers. For MAS-100, MAS-100 NT, MAS-100 NT Ex and MAS-100 Eco specific clamps are available that hold the petri dish in place (Adapter for glass Petri dishes MAS-100, MAS-100 NT/EX and MAS-100 Eco | Art. no 06.6098.01). The standard clamps for the microbial air sampler MAS-100 VF can be adjusted to fit the wider diameter of glass Petri dishes.

MBV recommends a calibration interval of 12 months for all instruments. This is also the standard setting of calibration reminders of microbial air samplers and digital anemometers. Depending on rules, regulations, standards, and your own risk analysis, this periodicity can be adjusted.

For all MAS-100 microbial air samplers except those for compressed gases, MBV uses a MAS-100 digital anemometer which is available as a product.

There are 3 ways to calibrate and, if necessary, adjust an MAS-100 micobial air sampler:

    1) At an MBV service center or a certified service partner

    2) On-site by a service technician of MBV or a certified service partner

    3) Independently by using a MAS-100 digital anemometer

More information about the different possibilities can be found on our service page 'Calibration & Adjustment'. For more information on the MAS-100 digital anemometer, click here.

Both sampling heads collect with 100 L/min. They both have the same physical outer dimensions and mechanically fit on all current MAS-100 air samplers.
    There are two application-relevant differences:

    1) Different Feller tables have to be applied (see download section) as the probability of two CFU hitting the same hole are different.

    2) Due to the smaller hole diameter of the 300x0.6 (0.6mm) the air flow speed is much higher (about 20 m/s vs 11 m/s for the 400x0.7).

This higher airspeed translates into a better collection efficiency (D50=1.1 micrometer vs 1.6 micrometers).

For these reasons, the 300x0.6 has become the standard sampling head. However, some customers have collected vast amounts of data using the 400x0.7 head and for historical comparability want to further use this lid.

Also: The microbial air sampler MAS-100 Eco is only compatible with the 400x0.7.
