MAS-100 Eco®

The cost-effective entry into active microbial air sampling

The MAS-100 Eco® is the basic version of the portable MAS-100 active microbial air samplers. Designed for sterile food and cosmetic production as well as hygiene inspections in HVAC systems, it combines reliable measurement performance with an exceptionally lightweight and compact design.

Active volumetric flow control, compatibility with a wide range of agar plate formats, and easy cleaning with standard disinfectants make it the ideal instrument for routine monitoring and audits.

Get started. Move forward. Monitor with confidence.

The MAS-100 Eco was specifically developed for applications that require reliable, standards-compliant active air sampling without the need for the full feature set of a high-end cleanroom instrument.

Using standard Petri dishes and featuring a robust aluminium housing for long service life, the MAS-100 Eco is a hygienic working instrument that helps conserve both budget and resources.

With an airflow rate of 100 liters per minute and active volumetric flow control, the MAS-100 Eco delivers reproducible measurement results. Calibration is performed using the certified MAS-100 Regulus® digital anemometer. This reference anemometer has been calibrated in an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory, ensuring traceability to international standards. The system meets the requirements of ISO 14698‑1 and EN 17141, making it suitable for use in regulated monitoring programs.

Weighing around 1.3 kg and featuring a compact design, the MAS-100 Eco can be used wherever you need it – from the production line to on-site hygiene inspections. The guided menu with six pre-programmed volumes reduces user errors and safely leads even inexperienced operators through the process. The real-time clock with date display, along with error indicators, ensures transparent results and simplifies documentation.

The MAS-100 Eco is compatible with 90 mm standard Petri dishes, 55 mm contact plates, and GrowthDirect® cassettes. This allows you to select the appropriate medium for your application or lab standard without changing the hardware.

Accessories such as tripods and air funnels extend its use from cleanrooms and food production to HVAC systems. The hygiene inspection case ensures safe transport and professional organization of all components.

Impaction principle in microbial air sampling

For active microbial air sampling based on the impaction principle, a predefined volume of air is drawn through a perforated sieve. The air and the particles in it are accelerated and directed onto an agar plate positioned below the sieve.

Due to inertia, particles above a certain size are impacted onto the agar medium. After appropriate incubation, microbe-bearing particles become visible as colony forming units (CFU), can be counted and reported as CFU/m3. The particle size at which 50% of the particles impact and the other half remain in the air stream is called the cut off diameter d50 (um).

Great emphasis is placed on precision in the manufacture of MBV perforated sieves. This ensures that the cut off diameter is identical in all holes and that microbial air sampling is repeatable.

FAQ

The MAS-100 Eco is a robust air sampler developed for application in the food and beverage, cosmetics and building industries where regulatory requirements are less stringent than in the pharmaceutical industry.

Both instruments guarantee excellent recovery rates.

  • The MAS-100 NT offers additionally:
  • Integrated gas mass flow sensor with temperature and pressure compensation
  • d50 of 1.1 µm instead of 1.6 µm
  • Fully automated air flow calibration and adjustment possible with the DA-100 NT
  • Data communication with PC
  • Available as explosion proofed version

The procedure is explained in the user manual:

The base plate can be removed with the aid of the perforated lid. Lift off the perforated lid and place it over the base plate. Ensure that the perforated lid properly fits to the three slots in the base plate. Rotate counter clockwise and remove the base plate. Important: Only use the perforated lid to remove the base plate!

We recommend an annual recalibration interval for all MAS-100 microbial air samplers. MBV offers multiple options to perform the recalibration. Please refer to the calibration section of our website.
